About Aberford Interiors

Nestled within HIcklam House, a beautiful Queen Anne property in the picturesque village of Aberford, West Yorkshire, Aberford Interiors has been inspiring homes for over 40 years.

What began as a little antique shop in one of the house’s elegant reception rooms – now our welcoming tearoom – has grown into a destination for beautiful interiors.  Today we are proud to be home to Neptune by Aberford Interiors, showcasing the whole Neptune Home collection which includes all their kitchens, furniture, paints and home accessories.  We are also stockists for Farrow and Ball, Little Greene and Edward Bulmer paints alongside a carefully curated selection of homewares and a charming collection of antiques.

Whether you’re planning a complete home transformation or searching for the perfect finishing touch, our experienced team is here to help you create a home you’ll love.

After exploring the store, relax in our bright and airy tearoom, where you can enjoy freshly brewed coffee and a slice of delicious homemade cake – the perfect way to round off your visit.

Our Story

The story of Aberford Interiors began in the 1970s when John and Shirley Long bought Hicklam House as a home and Shirley set up a small antiques business in what is now the tearoom.  Since then it evolved into Aberford Pine and then latterly into Aberford Interiors as we know it today.

Family Business

For a short time in the 1980’s it truly was a family business with John, Shirley, Carol and William (their daughter and son) all involved.  Sadly Shirley died in 1986 shortly after which William left for Spain for a career in the wine trade and now runs his own successful wine business, Long Wines, from offices in Madrid where he now lives.

John then continued to run the business, helped by his second wife Pam, until he retired in 2003 when Carol – who had been less involved whilst raising her children – took over.

Transformation

Since then, Carol has overseen the transformation of the business into the destination it is today. In 2009 Kevin Duckenfield joined the business helping to create the impressive Neptune showroom that remains at the heart of Aberford Interiors.

Kevin retired in 2018 and Carol has been leading it since then supported by the knowledgeable, friendly and passionate team who welcome customers every day.

Hicklam House

More than four decades after its beginnings, Aberford Interiors remains proudly independent, combining timeless design, exceptional craftsmanship and personal service from the unique surroundings of Hicklam House.
